Today’s list of book gift ideas for middle grade readers (8-14 yo) comes to you courtesy of my lovely 11 yo daughter.
She painstakingly narrowed her favorite books of the year to share with y’all.
🚨disclosure I have only read 1 of these and reviewed as #motherdaughterreviews
I usually look up the books she reads on Common sense media or Goodreads so I have an idea of what they are about. I recommend you do as well in case there are any topics you would like to discuss with them. So in no particular order:

- Planet Earth Is Blue by Nicole Panteleakos. A nonverbal girl with a passion for space awaits the lauch of the Challenger and adapting to a new foster home.

- The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris. A runaway street magician finds a group of like minded illusionist. Packed with secret codes, magic tricks and ciphers.

- The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl by Stacy McAnulty. After surviving a lightning strike that gives her super math skills, you think surviving middle school would be easy.

- Sal and Gabi Fix the Universe by Carlos Hernandez. After breaking the universe in book one, these friends are trying to patch things up.

- Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibbs. The youngest and smartest genius is recruited by the CIA to stop a group from destroying the world.

- Mañanaland by Pam Muñoz Ryan. Max sets out to discover his family’s secret, who are the guardians keeping the travelers safe and what that has to do with his missing mom.

- I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Patricia McCormic (young readers edition). When Malala was 15 she was shot in the head on her way to school. Because she was a girl and it was forbidden for her to study. After a miraculous recovery she tells the story of her journey.

- Strangeworlds Travel Agency by L. D. Lapinski. Step in to a suitcase and travel to new worlds, oh, and also fix the City of Five lights before everything collapses into nothing.

- Malamander by Thomas Taylor. Eerie-on-Sea is a mysterious place, where strange things tend to wash up. In the depths of the wrecks of the batteship some swear they’ve seen a malamander.
