I am very excited to participate for the second year as a book reviewer for Multicultural Children’s book day.
I was gifted a digital copy of the bilingual book Vaccines Explained / Todo sobre las Vacunas by Ohemaa Boahemaa and illustrated by Joyeeta Neogi, published by Language Lizard.
accines Explained / Todo sobre las Vacunas is a nonfiction informative book about vaccines. The language used is simple and age- appropriate for younger kids. The explanation of the history of vaccination and how vaccines work is done in an easy to understand way. There is also a glossary at the end with definitions for the technical terms used throughout the book.
The illustrations of the book are very well done. I appreciated the diversity in the people included in these illustrations, representing people of different countries, ethnicities, genders and ages.
I really liked that the book includes the story in both English and Spanish, and they also have editions in Chinese, French and Arabic. These are perfect for bilingual families like my own. This book is ideal for classroom and for doctors offices so that parents snd children can learn about this topic.

This non-profit children’s literacy initiative was founded by Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen; two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural books and authors on the market while also working to get those book into the hands of young readers and educators.
